Boys Golf Wins with Season-Best Score

The boys varsity golf team posted a season-low score to take home victories against Wilbraham & Monson Academy and Cushing Academy at the GreatHorse Country Club on Wednesday, May 3, building momentum before the Coppola Cup.

The team was thrilled to see the sun poke out from behind the clouds just before teeing off, and away the Pelicans went at one of the most beautiful venues in all of prep school golf.

Freshman Michael Liu had one of his best rounds of the season, posting a 1-over-par 37, which earned medalist of the day with the competition’s lowest score. Finishing right behind him with another very strong round was junior Ryan Che, who drew several “ooo”s and “ahh”s from the crowd when his shot on the par-three ninth hole nearly hit the flag stick.

All in all, it was a great day, and it was clear that the team needed some sunshine to get their game going after a wet week and a half out on the practice grounds.

Up next, the team has a quick turnaround with the always fun and always competitive annual Coppola Cup, hosted by Avon Old Farms on Thursday, May 4, at the Golf Club of Avon at 4:15 p.m. The event is a two-day tournament, with day two of the competition taking place Tuesday, May 9, at 4:15 p.m.

Below are the individual scores for each member of the team:

  1. Freshman Michael Liu – 37 (medalist)
  2. Junior Ryan Che – 38
  3. Sophomore Lucas Hanley – 42
  4. Sophomore Ryan Wang – 44
  5. Junior Carter Dyreson – 41
  6. Senior Charlie Chen – 42
