Boys Golf Team’s Great Early-Season Win

The boys varsity golf team prevailed over Choate Rosemary Hall and Pomfret on Wednesday, April 10, at Wallingford Country Club, Choate’s notoriously difficult home course.

The Pelicans totaled just 193 strokes on the day compared to Choate’s 201 and Pomfret’s 216, respectively.

Senior Carter Dyreson led the way for the Pelicans, birdying three of his last five holes and finishing at one over par on the day. Junior Ryan Wang also had an exceptional round, shooting two over par, followed by sophomore Michael Liu and freshman Nicky Flynn, who each shot just four over par. The scoring was rounded out by junior Lucas Hanley, who had a solid round and finished at seven over par.

“Playing this great early in the season is important and should be a real confidence booster for the team as the season wears on,” noted head coach Matthew Spindler-Virgin, who reported that “the Choate coach marveled at the [Loomis] team as it is very rare seeing a team break 200 on Wallingford’s extremely difficult course.”

The boys are back on the course on Saturday, April 13, when they will take on Avon Old Farms and Williston Northampton at Ledges Golf Club. First tee-off will be at 2:30 pm.
