Boys Squash Rolls to Back-to-Back 7–0 Victories

The Loomis Chaffee boys squash team earned back-to-back 7–0 wins in January, opening the new year with a home victory over Avon Old Farms on January 14 before sweeping Suffield on Saturday, January 24.

Against Avon, the Pelicans turned in one of their most complete team performances of the season. The group played with confidence and maturity across the ladder, controlling rallies and setting the tone early. Strong matches came from throughout the lineup, including junior Andy Yang, freshman Timur Candan, and senior Andrew Kim, all of whom handled their courts well.

Senior Clement Wang faced the toughest matchup of the day and delivered a composed, well-balanced performance. He took the ball early, played smart into the front of the court, and consistently put his opponent under pressure. As a team, Loomis did a strong job using the full court, placing shots into the corners and limiting opportunities for Avon to gain momentum.

After a January 17 match at Hotchkiss was canceled, the Pelicans returned to action at home against Suffield on Saturday and again put together a clean sweep. Seniors Teema Thanunmanee and Sam Wu led the way with controlled play, closing out their matches efficiently and keeping points short when possible.

Sophomore Michael Ma returned to the lineup after missing time with an injury and showed good touch, particularly into the back of the court. Freshman Benjamin Kim stepped in from JV for the injured Yang and impressed in his varsity debut, winning his match in three games. Clement Wang once again drew a challenging opponent and earned another straight-games win.

The Pelicans will next travel to Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday, January 28, for one of the team’s biggest matches of the season.
