Boys Squash Turns Back Westminster

The boys varsity squash team defeated Westminster 5-2 on Wednesday, February 16, avenging a 1-6 loss against the Martlets in the first match of the season.

The team traveled to Simsbury eager to take on Westminster for the second time this season, and after some success as a team and individually at the New England Class C Championships last weekend, the team planned to build off of its momentum.

The team got off to strong start when senior captain Davis Hanson, who went undefeated in three matches at New Englands, knocked off his opponent at the No. 6 spot 3-0 in dominant fashion. His efforts were followed by sophomore Rayyan Haider, playing at No. 5, and junior Ignacio Feged, at No. 7, who both won their matches 3-0 as well.

Junior Brandon Kim, playing up in the ladder at the No. 2 spot, had a rocky start and was down 0-2, but persevered and had a major comeback by winning the next three sets and beating his opponent 3-2. His individual victory sealed the match for the Pelicans and evened up the season matchup against Westminster.

Up next, the team hosts Avon Old Farms in the final match of the season on Monday, February 21, at 4 p.m. in the Kohn Squash Pavilion.
