Chloe Obser and Lindsay Stepnowski Lead Charge Against Kent
Girls varsity hockey traveled to Kent on Wednesday, January 15, for a key Founders League matchup and delivered a commanding 8-1 victory.
The game marked the second meeting between the two teams this season; the last time they faced off was before the holiday break, at the Patsy K. Odden Invitational Hockey Tournament, where Loomis also came out on top with a 3-1 win.
Senior captain Chloe Obser and junior Lindsay Stepnowski led the charge on Wednesday, each tallying five points and continuing their outstanding seasons. Additional goals came from juniors Annie Schwarz and Bella Zolezzi, as well as senior Ellie Lachance.
The game showcased the Pelicans’ offensive firepower and relentless teamwork. Obser opened the scoring midway through the first period by redirecting a feed from Stepnowski off the rush. Schwarz extended the lead to 2-0 with a wrist shot that caused chaos in front of the net and found its way in. Stepnowski added a power-play goal just two seconds after a faceoff win from Obser, making it 3-0. After Kent scored to bring the tally to 3-1, Zolezzi responded immediately with a goal to regain the Pelicans’ momentum.
Stepnowski and Obser continued to dominate, adding additional goals, while Lachance tallied another with help from Obser and Stepnowski. Obser capped off the night with a breakaway goal assisted by freshman Elyse Harris and junior Carly Dann.
Junior goalie Adeline Roper stood strong in net, making 19 saves and expertly steering rebounds to the corners.
With this latest win, the Loomis girls extended their current win streak to 10, a streak that began after a close loss to Nobles on December 7. The team now shifts focus to its Hidden Opponent game on Saturday, January 18, facing off against Hotchkiss at 2:30 p.m.
