Girls Hockey Secures Founders League Championship
The girls hockey team secured the Founders League regular-season championship on Saturday, February 15, with a victory over Choate, a win that capped the Pelicans’ sweep of Founders League opponents this season.
In a dominant display, they swept each Founders League opponent—Westminster, Kent, Hotchkiss, Taft, and Choate—on their way to the title.
Head Coach Liz Leyden reflected on the team’s achievement, saying, “I am proud of the girls on their consistent effort this winter and on winning the Founders League this season. Our final Founders League game versus Choate was our toughest competition, and the girls persevered to take both the game and the league title. The team’s resilience and will to win has been notable all season, and we are excited for the final weeks of the season as we aim to make the Chuck Vernon Elite Eight Tournament in March.”
The team’s impressive 19-1-1 record to date includes wins over Founders League opponents Westminster, Kent, Hotchkiss, Taft, and Choate. The Pelicans have four regular-season games remaining, starting with a matchup against Lawrenceville on Wednesday, February 19, at 5 p.m. in the Savage/Johnson Rink.
