Loomis Chaffee girls varsity lacrosse defeated Hotchkiss 10-8 on Saturday, April 18, to earn the Pelicans’ first win against the Bearcats since 2019.  

With the victory, the Pelicans moved to 6-1 in Founders League play. 

Loomis set the tone early. Just 30 seconds into the first quarter, freshman Quin Moylan finished a feed from sophomore Noella Yanni to open the scoring. Later in the quarter, junior Laurel Johnson converted an eight-meter opportunity, and junior Anastasia Terrance added another eight-meter goal to give the Pelicans a 3-0 lead. 

Hotchkiss responded early in the second quarter to make the score 3-1, but Loomis answered. Junior Anna Sigrist and Terrance scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 5-1. Hotchkiss added two more to close the gap, but Sigrist found the net again before another Hotchkiss goal made it 6-4 at halftime. 

The Pelicans created separation in the third. Sigrist and Terrance each scored to open the quarter, pushing the lead to 8-4. After a Hotchkiss goal, Sigrist struck again, and Yanni added another to give Loomis a 10-5 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. 

Hotchkiss made a push in the final quarter, scoring three times while holding Loomis off the board, but the Pelicans managed the game late to secure the 10-8 win. 

Senior captain Kathryn Smith anchored the defense throughout, helping the group come up with timely stops. Sophomore Aliyah Murphy controlled the draw, working in sync with Smith and Moylan to secure key possessions, especially in the fourth quarter. Senior Jordyn Hill-Bucktooth made several key saves in goal. 

Sigrist played a major role on both ends, helping drive the offense while also contributing defensively. Terrance added key production in the attacking end, helping Loomis maintain its pace and finish chances.
