The girls varsity lacrosse team captured its first victory of the season with a 14-5 win over Kent on Wednesday, April 5, to improve to 1-1 on the year.
The Pelicans took a few minutes to shake off the long bus ride, as they were sloppy in the opening minutes of play but eventually found their game and jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first half.
Seniors Maggie Bankowski, Kaitlin Flynn, and Fiona Murphy all had big days for the Pelicans and combined for 13 goals. Junior Elena Higgins tacked on a goal as well to cap off the scoring. Senior Turner Brode and sophomore Lexi Barry also found the scoresheet with two assists each.
The goaltending duo of senior Sophie Powless and freshman Jordyn Hill-Bucktooth also shined, posting a combined six saves while also clearing the ball exceptionally well.
Up next for Loomis is a home game on Pratt Field under the lights on Saturday, April 8, at 5:45 p.m. against Northfield Mount Hermon.
