Whether you’re a varsity player, a junior varsity player or on the III team, there is much to be proud of during the 2023 girls soccer season at Loomis Chaffee. 

As the calendar turned from October to November, the teams had combined for a 21-3-2 record.

The III (or “thirds”) team is 6-0 and has allowed only one goal all season while scoring 36.  

The junior varsity team is 7-1-1 and has outscored its opponents 27-4. 

The varsity team is 8-2-1 and has outscored the opposition 40-11.  

The weather has forced some cancellations of practices and games, but that is about the only thing that has slowed down the three LC programs. 

The varsity, led by senior captains Kelly Stepnowski, Olivia Beauvois, and Louisa Thomsen and junior captain Emma Gregorski, has seemingly hit its stride with four regular-season games left, said head coach Linda Hathorn. The Pelicans are 4-0-1 in their last five games. Linda credits the team’s “commitment, dedication, and care for one another … It is a joy working with this group and coaching staff.” 

The junior varsity team has plenty of newcomers.  

“Despite being young and never having played together, the girls have worked hard every day learning how to communicate with each other, anticipate plays, and work as a team,” JV head coach Skyler Dovi  ’17 said. 

Defense has been the key. And behind that defense freshman Anna Sigrist has been “amazing,” making many great saves, Skyler said. 

“We have a crew of very talented defenders who know when to step up, support, and clear the ball,” Skyler said. “They help guide everyone on the field in front of them and are also a huge part of our only having let one goal in. [Freshman] Alice Li and [sophomore captain] Lauren Wright have been center defenders who have kept the whole team grounded and given every player support when needed.” 

Senior Angela Adu-Boateng and junior Izzy Heflin captain the III team. 

“We try for a nice balance of growing as an athlete and soccer player, having fun and making great friends that hopefully will last for years to come,” head coach Koby Osei-Mensah said. 

About 30 percent of the III team had not played much competitive soccer before this fall. 

“It is always phenomenal to see the growth that happens over the course of a season,” Koby said. 

The next game for the II team is Saturday, November 4, at home vs. Choate. 

The varsity team (Barton Field, 3 p.m.) and junior varsity team (Meadows, 3 p.m.) each play at home on Wednesday, November 1, vs. Northfield Mt. Hermon.
