Girls Swimming & Diving Wins Big on Senior Day

The girls varsity swimming and diving team defeated Choate 104-82 on Wednesday, February 15, to improve its record to 6-2. The meet was the final home event of the season, and the team celebrated its five seniors before and after the competition.

The meet started off with the 200-meter medley relay, and although Choate took first place, the Pelicans got important points with second- and third-place finishes.

In the following race, the 200-meter freestyle, the Pelicans had outstanding performances from sophomores Jessica Zhao, Delaney Pece, and Amy He, who finished first, second, and third, respectively, to give Loomis Chaffee a 19-11 lead. Another first-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley from junior Kayla Zeng helped the Pelicans take an even bigger lead heading into one of the most exciting races of the day, the 50-meter free.

That race, in which four Loomis swimmers recorded their best times of the season, was incredibly tight, but Choate took first place, while junior Julia Grant and senior Daisy Xu took home second and third places to maintain a solid Pelican lead.

Choate cut into the Pelicans' lead and tied the score at 47 after the one-meter dive and the 100-meter butterfly, but another first-place finish from Zhao in the 100-meter free put the Pelicans back on track. The team closed out its victory with a few more first-place finishes, including a team best time in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

The team's fiinal regular-season meet is at Deerfield Academy on Saturday, February 18, at 3 p.m.

Results from Wednesday's meet are on the New England Prep School Swimming & Diving website.
