The girls track & field team is just halfway through the spring season, and already the squad has set three new school records.
Junior Sam Mancini set a record in the javelin on April 15 when she threw for a distance of 119 feet and nine inches at a home meet with Miss Porter’s and Greenwich Academy. The previous record was set in 2012 by Faith McCarthy ’13.
Sophomore Natalie Crocker broke a school record that had stood for more than 30 years when she ran the 3000 meters in a time of 10:24.54 on April 19, in a continuation of the weather-interrupted Porter-Greenwich tri-meet. The previous record was set in 1991 by Shira Springer ’93.
And on April 22, the distance medley relay team of junior Sofia Rincon, freshman Maleah Cogle, sophomore Delaney Pece, and Crocker shattered the previous school record, which was set a year ago. Their time of 13:01.97 at the Hunt Relays at Deerfield eclipsed the previous mark of 13:22.20. The distance medley is not contested in most meets, so the Pelicans took full advantage of their one shot at setting a new mark in the event.
