Girls Track & Field Completes a Dominant Regular Season

The Loomis Chaffee girls track & field team capped off its second consecutive undefeated regular season on Saturday, May 4, and they did so in dominant fashion.

In their closest dual meet this spring, the Pelicans had an 18.5-point margin of victory, defeating Andover on Saturday by a score of 84-65.5. And on their nine-meet win streak, the team scored fewer than 100 points only three times.

Talent is spread across the team, and the Pelicans have broken five school records so far this season, a monumental feat considering the team’s impressive history. Junior Gabby Wood broke the school record in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes; senior captain Sam Mancini broke school records in both the 100-meter hurdles and the javelin, and the relay team of Wood, sophomore Stella Purdy, senior captain Chelsea Ndzana-Zogo, and senior Olivia Beauvois set a new school record in the 4x100 meters.

Although from the outside, track & field can appear to be an individual sport, the team component plays an important role at Loomis Chaffee.

“All 55 kids on our team are celebrated and valued,” noted head coach Lilian Hutchinson. “Not only have we broken five school records this year, but we see 25-35 personal records broken in each one of our meets, which is a testament to our strong team chemistry.”

The team looks to finish strong in the two championship meets they have built toward all season. On Saturday, May 11, they will travel to Westminster to compete in the Founders League Championship, which will begin at 1 pm. And on the following Saturday, May 18, they will compete in the Division I New England Prep School Track Association Championship at Deerfield.
