Halpern Takes Over for Boys Soccer Program

Scott Halpern has been elevated from co-head coach of the boys varsity soccer team to head coach, Loomis Chaffee Director of Athletics Sue Cabot announced last week.

“Coach Halpern brings tremendous experience as both a former player and as an experienced coach at several levels. His experience at the collegiate level along with his dedication to the development of young men both on and off the field will serve this program well,” Sue said.

After several years of working with the men’s soccer program at the University of Connecticut, Scott arrived on the Island last fall as the co-head soccer coach and associate athletic director. He also leads the Loomis Chaffee Athletic Association, mentors in the Peer Educators program, and works in Kravis Hall.

Coach Halpern said he was honored by the new appointment. “To be given the opportunity to work with talented young men who have the drive to compete at a high level, prioritize education, and invest toward the school’s mission of becoming their best self is an opportunity coaches dream about,” he said. “I feel extremely fortunate to have the chance to live that coaching the elite soccer program at Loomis Chaffee. This program has an illustrious history of success and a strong alumni base. I look forward to continuing our program success with talented, disciplined, and high-character young men who will aspire to bring Loomis Chaffee soccer to new heights.”

Sue also announced that Coach Dave Malloy, who was a co-head coach of the team this year, will remain with the program as the associate head coach.
