Pelican Teams Return from Preseason Trips

Over spring break, the Loomis Chaffee girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, and baseball teams kicked off their 2025 seasons with preseason trips to Florida as they trained, competed, and bonded as teams.

The girls lacrosse team traveled to Clearwater, where it played games against five opponents and held multiple practices. Off the field, the team enjoyed a range of team-bonding activities, including a karaoke night, Top Golf, and daily shared meals. One morning, the team started the day with a beachside run and yoga session, followed by a few hours relaxing on the sand. Team challenges and shared experiences helped strengthen the group’s chemistry heading into the season.

In Orlando, the boys lacrosse team competed against three teams and ran several practices to prepare for their opener. Off the field, they engaged in a leadership seminar and took part in a spirited afternoon of paintball. “The spring break trip is always a great start to the spring season, and this year’s trip did not disappoint,” said head coach Bill Ball. “The weather was great down in Florida, and the trip provided a great chance for the team to bond both on and off the field.”

The baseball team made its way to Vero Beach, where it played four scrimmages and held daily practices. Team activities included bowling, pool tournaments, and a visit to a Port St. Lucie Mets game — an evening made especially memorable thanks to an opportunity to meet some of the major league Mets players coordinated by Loomis Trustee Scott Havens ’91, who is president of business operations for the Mets. The trip also featured a poolside pizza night complete with cornhole, bocce, and other lawn games. On the final day, the team visited the beach for a morning workout led by strength coach Nhat Mai, followed by a celebratory senior dinner at Applebee’s.

Each trip offered a valuable opportunity for Loomis athletes to develop both as individuals and as teams. With the season officially under way, the Pelicans are ready to take on their spring schedules.
