Senior Stella Purdy and junior Payton Flint each set school records to lead Loomis Chaffee in a successful home meet against Taft on Saturday, April 18. Purdy, competing for the girls team, won the 400 meters in 56.98 seconds, breaking a record that had stood since 2015. Flint, on the boys side, ran 14.68 in the 110-meter hurdles to break a mark set in 2004. 

The Loomis boys and girls teams won a total of 26 of the 34 events across the girls and boys meets. 

The girls team took 11 of 17 events and swept the top three places in five of those events, finishing with a 97-47 win. Twenty of the team’s athletes scored points. Event winners included senior Izzy Cruz (200), Purdy (400, long jump, javelin), senior Charlotte Preuss (1500), freshman Tillie Killam (3000), sophomore Emily Hosman (300 hurdles), senior Lauren Plummer (shot put, discus), sophomore Zieozi Olen (pole vault), and the 4x400 relay team of Hosman, junior Maddie Denaro, Cruz, and Purdy. 

The girls recorded 38 personal bests on the day. 

The boys team won 15 of 17 events and hit 39 personal bests, defeating Taft 120-25. Several races featured close finishes among Loomis athletes, particularly in the sprints and middle-distance events. 

Individual event winners included senior George Volintiru (100, 200), junior Kaden Wehbe (400), senior Miles Gackstetter (800), senior Alex Fisher (1500), junior Amani Odenigbo (3000), Flint (110 hurdles), sophomore Jaan Abernathy (300 hurdles), senior Sean Onaibre (discus), senior Abdoulaye Sow (shot put), senior Zane Habig (javelin), junior Jeremiah Robinson (long jump), and sophomore Trae Ford (triple jump). The 4x100 relay team of junior TK Ideriah, Flint, junior Daniel Onyemakonor, and senior Ardon West and the 4x400 relay team of Wehbe, senior George Mirgorodskiy, Flint, and Ideriah won their events as well.  

The meet also included the annual Clydesdale Relay, a spirited, non-scoring tradition, in which athletes who compete in throwing events for each school form 4x100 relay teams and compete for glory.

Loomis travels to Hotchkiss on Saturday, April 25, for a tri-meet with Hotchkiss and Deerfield beginning at 2 p.m.
