Softball Is on Fire
The Loomis Chaffee softball team is having a fantastic 2024 spring season thus far, with a record of 8-1, including a number of dominating wins. Their latest triumph was a resounding 12-0 win against Taft, a team they didn't defeat in 2023.
The Pelicans have outscored their opponents 94 runs to 19 so far this season, and they are on a five-game win streak as of Wednesday, May 1.
The team is led by its three captains, senior Kyra Shustak and juniors Violet Peverly and Niamh Foley. All three captains point to the team’s closeness and the players’ support of each other as important factors in enabling the team to flourish both on and off the scoreboard.
“This year’s squad is composed of smart ball players who are interested in understanding high-level tactics and grasp difficult concepts with few reps,” said head coach Lindsay Beer. “We have a young crew, but we coaches feel like everyone is stepping up to play more maturely with a great amount of composure.”
With just one senior, four juniors, four sophomores, and seven freshmen, the team has found success because the players have bought into the team’s culture and have found the right balance between competing at the highest level and supporting each other.
In their next game, the team plays at home on Audrey Field versus Kent on Saturday, May 4, when the Pelicans will look to extend their win streak to six.
