Track & Field Teams Bring Home Hardware from Penn Relays

The boys and girls track and field teams sent athletes last week to the annual Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Franklin Field.

Both the boys and girls teams competed in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter races in the prep independent division, and each team took home gold and silver.

On the boys side, the team of sophomore Eli Darity, senior Jaden Small, junior Jalen Sutton, and senior Quincy Briggs took second place in the 4x100 with a time of 44.52 seconds, finishing just behind Deerfield Academy.

In the 4x400, senior Sam Kurian, junior Sebastian Cohen, senior Shunsuke Matsubayashi, and Briggs earned gold medals and a team plaque with a time of 3:39.39, a full seven seconds faster than the next team.

On the girls side, senior Chelsea Ndzana-Zogo, sophomore Gabby Wood, senior captain Izzy Balise, and freshman Stella Purdy won a first-place plaque in the 4x100 with a time of 50.66.

Their effort was followed up by the team of junior Chloe Kahn, Purdy, Balise, and junior Logan Elie taking home silver in the 4x400 with a time of 4:09.62, finishing behind Deerfield Academy.
