Track & Field Teams Victorious at Founders League Championship

The boys and girls track & field teams both won the Founders League Championship by large margins on Saturday, May 11, winning more than half of the events and setting multiple records.
 
Winning nine of the 17 events, the boys team scored 192 points, eclipsing the rest of the league teams. In second place was Avon Old Farms, with 72 points.
 
Pelican record-setters for the boys on the day included senior captain Orion Browne, who set the meet and school record in the triple jump with a jump of 48 feet 4 inches, and senior captain Sebastian Cohen, who set the meet and school record in the 300-meter immediate hurdles with a time of 39.11. Cohen also won the 110-meter high hurdles.
 
Other event winners from the team included senior captain Julian Sutton in the shot put, senior Adi Verma in the pole vault, sophomore Alex Fisher in both the 800 meters and 3000 meters, and sophomore Miles Gackstetter in the 1500 meters. The team also won the 4x400-meter relay with senior Ben Bradford, Cohen, junior George Martin, and sophomore Lucas Bain.
 
The girls team won their team title with 175 points. Second-place Taft scored 100 points.
 
Individual event winners included junior Gabby Wood in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, senior captain Sam Mancini in the 100-meter hurdles and the javelin (with a new school record of 131 feet 2 inches), sophomore Lauren Plummer in the discus and shot put, senior Olivia Beauvois in the 400 meters, senior Chloe Kahn in the high jump, sophomore Stella Purdy in the 300-meter hurdles, and senior Logan Elie in the 800 meters. The team also won both relays: the 4x100 meters with sophomore Gianna Beauvois, Purdy, Wood, and Olivia Beauvois and the 4x400-meter relay with Elie, Purdy, Mancini, and Olivia Beauvois. The latter relay also shattered the school record with a time of 4:01.98.
 
Next up for both the boys and girls teams is the Division I New England Prep School Track Association Championships at Deerfield on Saturday, May 18, where the events will begin at 10:30 am.
