Field Hockey Shows Resilience

The varsity field hockey team faced Deerfield on Friday, October 11, in a close match that ended in a narrow 3-4 overtime loss. Undeterred, the team regrouped and returned on Wednesday, October 16, with a strong 6-0 win against Miss Porter’s.

The Pelicans records now stands at 5-4 on the season.

The Deerfield game was a tight contest, with both teams pushing the pace throughout. Each team recorded eight shots on goal, and Loomis Chaffee earned seven penalty corners to Deerfield’s five.

After Deerfield opened scoring in the second quarter, Loomis senior captain Presley Paredes responded with an equalizer, assisted by fellow senior captain Katie Sigrist, before halftime. In the fourth quarter, sophomore Easton Pramuka leveled the score again with a goal set up by Paredes and junior Adeline Roper, but Deerfield managed to pull ahead late in the period. Junior Carly Dann’s goal in the final seconds pushed the game into overtime, where Deerfield ultimately secured the win.

Looking to bounce back, Loomis came out strong against Miss Porter’s and claimed an impressive victory. With the leadership of Sigrist, Paredes, and junior captain Kathryn Smith, the team aims to continue this momentum as the Pelicans take on Choate on Friday, October 18, at 4:30 p.m. at home on the Upper Turf.
