Winter 2024: An Update on the JV and III Teams

While Loomis Chaffee sports teams have had great success at the varsity level this winter both on and off the scoreboard, that strong culture also has translated to the JV and III level.

Whether it has a winning record or not, each team has something unique that has made the season successful. Here’s a look at some of these teams individually:

Boys JV basketball: The team is 1-1 in its last two games, including a crucial 75-58 win over Phillips Exeter. The team has taken a few losses to some very talented opponents, but the Pelicans have continued to improve as the season has progressed. Their next game is a road contest against Choate on Saturday, February 10, at 2:30 p.m.

Boys III basketball: Win or lose, this team has improved every day. In one of the highlights of the season so far, in a home game on January 20 against Suffield, the Pelicans came back from being down by double digits to eventually win the game. They will hit the road to take on Worcester Academy on Saturday, February 10, at 1 p.m.

Girls JV basketball: These Pelicans currently have a record of 4-3, with all three of their losses coming against undefeated opponents. The team has hit their stride as of late, seeing improvement both offensively and defensively. The girls will look to dominate in their final five games of the season no matter who they face. The Pelicans’ next game is Saturday, February 10, when they will take on Deerfield at 5 p.m. followed by a game on Monday, February 12, against Westminster at 4:45 p.m. Both games are at home in Erickson Gym.

Boys JV hockey: Although this team has not yet picked up a win, it has worked hard to improve. In the most recent game against Williston Northampton, the team scored in the first 15 seconds of the game, showcasing their competitive spirit.

Girls JV hockey: These Pelicans are currently undefeated with a record of 7-0-1. They have handled everything that has come their way all season and have had stellar performances from many different players. Notable wins included a 6-0 shutout against Northfield Mount Hermon and a 10-4 win over Hotchkiss, where the team scored its season high in goals. Up next for the team is a 5 p.m. game on Saturday, February 10, away against Berkshire.

Girls JV squash: This team has had a successful first 10 games, coming in with a record of 6-4. Every player on the team has improved tremendously and continues to shine every match. The team has a tight bond, has fun together, and will look to finish strong in the final weeks of the season. Their next match is against Berkshire on Saturday, February 10, at 2 p.m. in the Kohn Squash Pavilion.

Boys JV squash: After dropping its first three team matches of the season by a score of 0-7, the team has been on a major upswing, getting wins over teams like Kingswood Oxford and Williston Northampton. Throughout, the team has continued to have fun and will finish the season on a high note. The team’s last match of the season is Wednesday, February 14, at Westminster.
