Get Ready for the Fall Season 

The fall competition season begins for the Pelicans this week. Here’s a roundup of the varsity teams and their early-season games, meets, and shows. 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY 

Coach: Andrew Bartlett 

2022 Recap: Won Founders League Championship; third place in New England Prep School Track Association (NEPSTA) Division I Championship. 

2023 Opener: Canterbury Invitational, September 23, 1 p.m., at Canterbury School, New Milford, Conn. 

Postseason: Founders League Championship, November 4, at Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn. NEPSTA Championship, November 11, at Loomis Chaffee.  

  

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY 

Coach: Becky Purdy 

2022 Recap: For the first time since 1989 and only the second time in program history, the girls team won the Division I New England Prep School Track Association (NEPSTA) Championship. Also won Founders League Championship for the second year in a row.  

2023 Opener: Canterbury Invitational, September 23, noon, at Canterbury School, New Milford, Conn.  

Postseason: Founders League Championship, November 4, at Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, Conn. NEPSTA Championship, November 11, at Loomis Chaffee. 

  

EQUESTRIAN 

Coach: Carolyn Mainardi 

2022 Recap: Finished first in three of six shows. Won the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) regional finals to qualify for the IEA Zone 1 finals for the first time in program history.  

2023 Opener: IEA Horse Show, September 23, at Ethel Walker School, Simsbury, Conn. 

  

FIELD HOCKEY 

Coach: Lauren Williams 

2022 Recap: New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class A quarterfinalist. The team earned its berth after a 10-6-2 season, which included an overtime win in its final regular-season game of the year to qualify for the tournament.  

2023 Opener: At St. Mark's School, September 20, 3:45 p.m., Southborough, Mass.  

Postseason: NEPSAC playoffs (pending qualification) start November 15, site TBA.   

  

FOOTBALL 

Coach: Adam Banks 

2022 Recap: The team won the NEPSAC Mark Conroy Bowl with a 37-25 victory over Williston Northampton. The bowl game win was the Pelicans' second in as many years and marked the culmination of an 8-1 season.  

2023 Opener: At Hotchkiss School, September 17, 1 p.m., Lakeville, Conn.  

Postseason: NEPSAC bowl games (pending qualification), November 18, sites TBA. 

  

BOYS SOCCER 

Coach: Scott Halpern, first year 

2022 Recap: The team finished 9-5-4.  

Next Game: Home vs. Exeter, September 17, 1 p.m., Pratt Field. 

Postseason: NEPSAC playoffs (pending qualification) start November 15, site TBA.   

  

GIRLS SOCCER 

Coach: Linda Hathorn 

2022 Recap: New England Class A semifinalist. Finished 12-2-2.  

2023 Opener: Home vs. Noble & Greenough, September 20, 3:45 p.m., Barton Field  

Postseason: NEPSAC playoffs (pending qualification) start November 15, site TBA.   

  

VOLLEYBALL 

Coach: Jeff Dyreson 

2022 Recap: New England Class A finalist. Finished 13-3.  

2023 Opener: Home vs. Sacred Heart, September 15, 4 p.m., Olcott Gym.  

Postseason: NEPSAC playoffs (pending qualification) start November 15, site TBA. 

  

BOYS WATER POLO 

Coach: Edward Pond 

2022 Recap: Finished 3-16.  

2023 Opener: Home vs. Deerfield Academy, September 20, 3:15 p.m., Hedges Pool.  

Postseason: NEPSAC Finals (pending qualification), November 11, site TBA.
