Baseball Shuts Out Taft in Tight Game

The varsity baseball team moved to 7-1 on the year with a 1-0 victory over Taft on Monday, April 25, on Sellers Field.

Senior Chandler Coe led the way on the mound for the Pelicans. He retired the first three batters he faced and went on to pitch five hitless innings and accumulate eight strikeouts.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the first inning after senior Payten Wawruck got on base with a single and was eventually driven home by sophomore Gabriel Tirado. After the first inning, the Pelican bats went cold, and neither team scored.

In the sixth inning, sophomore pitcher Ian Brown came into the game to relieve Coe, and recorded the save, not without some drama though, as junior John LaFleur had to make a diving catch on the final out of the game.

Up next, the Pelicans host Westminster on Wednesday, April 27, at 3 p.m. on Sellers Field, looking to avenge their only loss of the season so far.
