Boys basketball head coach Rock Battistoni was named the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A Coach of the Year for boys basketball on Tuesday, March 31, after leading the Pelican team to a Founders League title and a NEPSAC Class A championship.
Battistoni and the basketball team put together a season with 20 wins and only 6 losses. Of those six losses, five came against out of conference opponents. Highlights from the season include a 75-74 victory over eventual Class AA finalists Worcester Academy, as well as a 90-58 drumming of the eventual Class AA champions, Wilbraham & Monson Academy.
The basketball team also produced NEPSAC Co-Player of the Year senior R.J. Blakney as well as three All-NEPSAC players in seniors Josh Menard and Reece Brown and junior Nate Santos.
The NEPSAC championship was Coach Battistoni’s first as a head coach, and the Founders League title was his second since coming to Loomis Chaffee. In addition to coaching, he is an associate director of admissions and a dorm faculty member in Batchelder Hall, where he lives with his wife Cara; his sons, Milo and Luca; and his dog, Fletcher.
