Begley ’19 Racks up Academic Awards with Michigan Field Hockey

For the second year in a row, University of Michigan field hockey player Katie Begley ’19 was honored as a Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholar this summer for her academic and athletic achievement.

A redshirt junior for the Wolverines, Begley also has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Collegiate National Academic Team three times and the Academic All-Big Ten team twice in addition to her two years on the Distinguished Scholar list.

According to the conference, “the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor goes to student-athletes who recorded a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.”

At Loomis, Katie was a three-year captain of the field hockey team and a Western New England Prep School Field Hockey Association All-Star her senior year. She also earned four varsity letters as a member of the softball team, which she captained her junior and senior year, and was named a Western New England Prep School Softball Association All-Star as a senior. A four-year Honor Roll student, she won a Baxter Science Award and received the Carling Book Prize in her senior year.
