The boys varsity soccer team defeated Brunswick 9-0 on Wednesday, September 21, on Helfrich Field, capturing the Pelicans’ first win of the season.
Loomis Chaffee came out firing in the first half and found the back of the net in the first five minutes of the game thanks to a great pass from freshman Nate Gritzmacher that found the feet of junior Austin Bush. Bush dribbled past the last Bruin defender and tucked the ball into the goal.
A few minutes later the Pelicans scored back-to-back corner kick goals from senior Spencer Mix and junior Lorcan Mitchell, with senior captain Kieran Chandler recording both assists. Just before the end of the half, the Pelicans struck again when Mitchell notched his second goal of the game on a beautiful through ball from senior Avery Bronner.
Early in the second half Mitchell scored another breakaway goal, assisted by senior Ben Cosentino, to complete a hat trick.
Loomis continued the scoring spree with goals from Austin Bush (unassisted) and added first career goals and points from freshman Boston Childers (unassisted), freshman Trevor Steele (unassisted), and junior Simon Vulliez (assisted by Steele), wrapping up the game at 9-0.
Up next, the Pelicans host Phillips Andover on Friday, September 23, at 6:15 p.m. on Pratt Field.
