Jesus Cruz ’16, a senior guard with the Fairfield University basketball team, recorded his 1,000th career point on Saturday, December 12, in a 67-52 win over Iona College.
Cruz played in 33 of the 40 minutes in the game, posting seven points, five rebounds, one steal, and three blocks, and he kicked off a 17-1 run against Iona with a deep three-pointer that ignited the team. So far this season, he ranks third in minutes played among his teammates, second in points, first in steals, and second in assists.
Cruz attended Loomis as a post-graduate, and during his time on the Island, he was named a member of the U-19 Puerto Rico International Federation Basketball (FIBA) team.
Jesus and the rest of his Stags team return to action next weekend when they travel to upstate New York for a two-game series at Niagara University on December 18 and 19. Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
