Ryan Durkin ’18, finished first in the pole vault at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, April 30, to wrap up his conference career at Bowdoin College.
Durkin, who split the title with two other athletes, cleared 4.75 meters (15 feet-7 inches), his personal best, on his third attempt. The jump ranks Durkin 20th in the country among Division III college pole vaulters. He attempted to tie the NESCAC record of 4.85 meters (15 feet-11 inches) but came up just short.
When he was at Loomis, Durkin won the pole vault at the Division I New England Prep School Track Association Championship in his junior and senior years. He placed second at New Englands as a sophomore. He also was an All-New England Prep School Athletic Conference water polo player and a wrestler.
Durkin and his Bowdoin team will compete in the Division III New England Championships this weekend at Williams College.
