The girls cross country team took first place at the Northfield Mount Hermon Invitational on Saturday, October 2, topping teams from Phillips Andover, St. Paul’s School, Winsor School, and host NMH.
The varsity seven edged out Andover by just four points, while the JV squad scored 21 points to win their competition by a considerable margin.
Once again, the Loomis girls ran well as a unit and used their pack running to their advantage. The Pelicans placed five of their runners in the top nine, with freshman Lexi Barry leading the way for Loomis Chaffee.
Winsor sophomore Meg Madison won the race with a time of 19:14, followed by two Andover runners. But then came a stream of Loomis runners led by Barry, who placed fourth overall, and Natalie Crocker, who finished fifth. Close on their heels were sophomore Sofia Rincon in sixth place, junior Maeve Dowd in seventh place, and senior Brooke Barry in ninth place. Rounding out the varsity squad and bolstering the Loomis score were sophomores Logan Elie and Sylvia Barresi in 14th and 15th places, respectively.
Next up, the team has three home meets in a row, starting with a four-team meet with Hotchkiss, NMH, and Taft on Saturday, October 9. The race begins at 3 p.m.
