The girls varsity swimming and diving team opened the new year with a 98-74 victory on Wednesday, January 12, over the Kent Lions, improving the Loomis Chaffee team’s record to two wins and one loss on the season.
With only a few days of practice under their belts after the long break, the Pelican girls brushed off the rust and competed well during their races and on the board.
The diving contingent of sophomore Bella Flowers, junior Campbell Brode, and senior Cori Schmidt put together some impressive dives and got some important experience as they prepare for the long season ahead.
In the swimming events, the team was led by junior Jenna Smith, who was victorious in the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events, and senior Eleanor Zhu, who had a strong showing in the 100-meter butterfly. Every race in the meet was won by a Loomis Chaffee swimmer, showing off both the team’s depth and its versatility.
“Getting and keeping everybody healthy is a key component to this season, and the girls will continue to train hard, shaking off the cobwebs as they prepare for the tough dual meet part of the season,” said head coach Bob DeConinck.
