After missing out on interscholastic competition last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Loomis Chaffee boys varsity soccer team is back in action this year and making sure they appreciate every opportunity they get.
“We are extremely excited to get back on the field after what was a pretty challenging fall for everyone, and because of that, we are also making sure to keep things in perspective. Of course, we want to compete and win every game, but we are also making sure to stay thankful and enjoy our time together,” said Coach David Malloy, who started as the head coach last fall.
The team is anchored by a senior cohort of 13 boys, several of whom remember the heartbreak of the team’s New England Class A quarterfinal loss in 2019 and hope to get back to the tournament this November.
“We have a great group of senior leaders on this team, and we are all looking forward to playing and competing with some of the best teams in New England. It’s going to be a blast,” said senior captain Will Cleary.
The soccer team begins its 2021 campaign by hosting the annual LC Soccer Jamboree on Saturday, September 11, beginning at 2 p.m. Loomis will play in modified scrimmages against Nobles, Deerfield, and Westminster. The team will play in the Meadows on the newly renovated Helfrich Field, which was resodded this summer.
