Last weekend the NCAA Division I and Division III men’s and women’s lacrosse tournaments kicked off and three Loomis Chaffee alums made the tournament this year.
Emma Trenchard ’17, a defender for the University of North Carolina women’s team, Sam DiMaio ’18, a defenseman for the Colorado College men’s lacrosse team, and Lia Laprise ’19, an attacker for the University of Connecticut women’s team all competed in first round games in their respective tournaments.
Trenchard ‘17, who is arguably the best defender in the country, anchored the back end for the Tar Heels in their 14-9 victory over James Madison University in the second round of the tournament. The Tar Heels, who are the No. 1 ranked team in the tournament, had a first round by.

LaPrise ’19, who led the Huskies in points and assists this year, had a goal and an assist in the team’s first round matchup against the University of Virginia. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Huskies fell to the Cavaliers 19-13.
DiMaio ’18, and the rest of the Colorado College men’s lacrosse team, find themselves facing off against the No. 3 team in the country in RIT this weekend in the third round of the NCAA DIII men’s tournament. The tigers knocked off Transylvania University 20-12 in the first round and then defeated Centre College 19-6 in the second round. In those two games DiMaio had a goal and picked up 8 ground balls.
