Emma Trenchard '17, a defender on the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team, capped off her historic collegiate career with a victory in the national title game on Sunday, May 29.
The Tar Heels defeated Boston College 12-11 in the championship game, played at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.
In her final year as a Tar Heel, Emma was named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association First Team All-American for the third time and was a pivotal part of UNC’s perfect season, finishing with 22 wins and no losses this year. Emma was USA Lacrosse Magazine’s 2022 Preseason Defender of the Year and a 2022 Preseason First-Team All-America pick by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. A three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection, and the 2019 ACC Defender of the Year, Emma also is a member of the U.S. national women’s lacrosse team.
On Tuesday, May 31, Emma was drafted to the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse professional women’s league as the third overall pick.
At Loomis, Emma was a four-year letter-winner in lacrosse who was team captain as a senior. She also earned four letters in basketball and soccer, captaining each team. She was named Loomis Chaffee’s top female athlete as a junior and senior, and was a two-time, first-team U.S. Interscholastic Lacrosse Association All-America pick, helping the Pelican lacrosse team to an undefeated season and top ranking in New England in her junior year.
