Athletics Announces Dial and Stuart as Varsity Coaches

Athletics Director Sue Cabot announced on Friday, June 23, that Elliott Dial will be the new head varsity football coach and Jed Stuart will be the new head boys varsity tennis coach.

Elliott joined the Loomis Chaffee community in 2011. He is a member of the history faculty, dorm head of Flagg Hall, and director of the school's Kravis Scholars Program. He has served as assistant football coach, head boys JV basketball coach, and assistant boys varsity basketball coach.

"I am incredibly excited to be taking on the role of head football coach next season," Elliott said. "I am honored to have been mentored by Coach Reid over the past six years and look forward to the next phase of the football program. I can't wait to work with our returning athletes as well as our new players across all grades and skill levels," he shared.

Elliott played football at Dartmouth College where he was center, guard, and defensive tackle, and earned the Squad Player Award. After earning his bachelor's degree in 2008, Elliott went on to spend two years as a football coach at St. Marks School for Boys in Texas before coming to the Island in 2011.

Jed joined the Loomis Chaffee community in the fall of 2016 as the associate director of The College Guidance Office. Prior to arriving on the Island, Jed was an admissions officer and college counselor at The Gunnery and served as the head boys varsity tennis coach for nine seasons and coached the boys ice hockey team. Jed was also an assistant tennis pro at The Lake George Club in Diamond Point, N.Y. and played collegiate tennis at Hobart College.

"I am excited to have both Elliott and Jed join the Pelican coaching staff as varsity head coaches," said Sue. "They both bring a wealth of knowledge that will strengthen our programs by building on the traditions of the tennis and football teams."

Elliott and the varsity football team's season opener will be on September 9, when they travel to Lawrenceville in N.J., for a 3:30 p.m. match-up. The varsity boys tennis team will return to action in March of 2018.
