Boys Swimming Defeats Hotchkiss

On Saturday, January 26, the Pelicans topped the Hotchkiss Bearcats 89-86 at the Hedges Pool in their second home meet of the 2018–19 campaign.

The Pelican medley relay team of senior Ben Laidlaw, sophomore Matt Ryckman, freshman Trent Hieber, and sophomore Kai Sheng Tham set the tone for the meet with a season's best first-place finish, and freshman Nick Guenther and senior Matt Remigino followed suit in the 200 freestyle with a 1-2 punch, both posting lifetime best times.

The second half of the meet opened with the most dramatic races of the afternoon. In the 100 free, Ryckman cruised to victory (another best time) while junior Lawrence Lee staged an impressive comeback swim, edging out his Bearcat opponent with just a few feet of real estate left in the race.

Then the Loomis sprint relay squad of junior Min Jun Jung, senior Jaden Rismay, sophomore Justin Wu, and Ryckman claimed victory with a sizzling season's best time, and freshman Drew Boutry, sophomore Jake Lotreck, and sophomore Andy Cao staged a sweep of the 100 backstroke (another three lifetime bests), sealing the win for the Pelicans.
