The girls varsity ice hockey team topped Northfield Mount Hermon 8-1 on the road Wednesday, November 27, behind the efforts of senior Jess Schryver and junior Jenna Donohue.
Schryver opened up the scoring for the Pelicans offense on the very first shift, and the team never looked back. Then, freshman Cally Dixon scored her first Loomis goal on her very first shift, blocking a shot in the defensive zone and then taking the puck to goal before firing it into the back of the net. Senior Georgia Kraus and Donohue also scored in the first period, and Schryver found the back of the net in the dwindling seconds of the first period to make the score 5-0 after the first period.
In the second frame, sophomore Paige LaRose extended the lead, and then Schryver completed a hat trick on the power play.
Northfield Mount Hermon got on the board early in the third period, but new junior Gisele Todd put home a rebound soon after to finish the scoring for the Pelicans.
Eleven players earned points in the game, with Schryver recording three goals and three assists and Donohue recording a goal and two assists. Sophomore goaltender Grace Caligiuri ended the game with 13 saves in the net, most of them coming in the first period.
Next up, the Pelicans take on defending New England champion Noble & Greenough School on Saturday, December 1, at 4 p.m. at the Savage/Johnson Rink. Last year, Nobles knocked the Pelicans out of the New England tournament in the semifinals by a score of 0 to 1.
