The girls varsity squash team opened its season with a suspenseful 4-3 victory over Westminster on Saturday, December 1.
After the first three games of the match, the Pelicans found themselves down 1-2, their lone point coming from senior Amara Haider in a tough four-game battle.
In the second round of games, seniors Lily Taylor and Fiza Malik both won against their opponents at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. With the score now tied at 3-3 and the momentum in their favor, the Pelicans relied on junior Sadie Olcott, seventh on the ladder, to win her match and seal the deal for the Pelicans. Olcott's match was a nail-biter. After losing the first two games, Olcott clawed back to even up the score to 2-2. In the final, deciding game, she trailed 7-9 but found her rhythm and came back to win the game 13-11, sealing the victory for Loomis.
Up next, the Pelicans take on Williston Northampton on Wednesday, December 5, at the Kohn Squash Pavilion.
