Girls Water Polo Defeats Deerfield

The girls varsity water polo team defeated Deerfield 11-7 in Hedges Pool on Wednesday, April 10, for the Pelicans' second win of the season.

The game got off to an exciting back-and-forth start as the Pelicans and the Doors traded goals all the way into the third quarter. Quality team defending and four straight saves from senior goaltender Sage MacClintic eventually stymied the Deerfield offense and allowed the Pelicans to take their first two-goal lead of the game, heading into the final quarter up 7-5.

In the fourth quarter the Pelicans capitalized on scoring opportunities as senior captains Carter Hutchinson and Faith Donegan scored consecutive goals to give Loomis a 9-5 lead. Two more goals from Donegan and junior Sky Hanley sealed the deal for the Pelicans.

Loomis will host Staples High School on Friday, April 12, at 4:30 p.m. in Hedges Pool before facing off against Choate and Greenwich High School in a doubleheader at Choate on Saturday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
