The girls varsity ice hockey team defeated Westminster 4-1 on the road in the Pelicans' third consecutive Founders League game thanks to the efforts of junior Anna Hurd, who scored three straight goals in the game. The team defeated Kent 2-0 and tied Hotchkiss 1-1 the week before.
The Pelicans started off the game strong, scoring three goals in the first period. The first goal came off the stick of junior Jenna Donohue, who fired home a shot after a great passing sequence from her line mates. After that, Hurd scored two goals, giving the Pelicans a 3-0 lead going into the second period.
Westminster responded in the second with a goal of their own, but Hurd scored her third goal of the game in the final period to complete the hat trick.
Special teams play was crucial for the Pelicans, who scored two power play goals and a shorthanded goal. The team outshot the Marlets 28-18, and sophomore goaltender Grace Caligiuri made 17 saves on the day.
The team looks to continue its success with a quick turnaround against Founders League foe Taft on Wednesday, January 16, at 3 p.m. in the Savage/Johnson rink.
