The girls varsity basketball team advanced to the Class A New England Prep School championship game this weekend but fell 59-67 to Marianapolis in the final on Sunday, March 3, in the Olcott Center.
After defeating Taft 62-48 in the quarterfinals and Deerfield 67-57 in the semifinals, the girls started out strong, jumping to a 19-15 lead midway through the first half. Unfortunately, the Pelicans seemed to run out of gas, as Marianapolis took a 12-point lead going into the second half.
The Knights continued to dominate until late in the second half, when a late-game frenzy from the Pelicans, led by sophomore Anahi-Lee Cauley, brought the game as close as seven points. The late push just wasn't enough, though, as Marianapolis hit a couple of big foul shots to secure the victory.
The Pelicans end their season with an 18-8 record, and their seventh straight appearance in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament.
