Strength & Conditioning
Building strong, resilient movers through long-term athletic development
Our strength & conditioning program emphasizes quality movement, strength, speed, power, and durability across all sports. Rather than focusing solely on short-term gains, we teach athletes how to move well, absorb force, and express power safely.
A positive, high-expectation culture in the weight room reinforces accountability and teamwork that carries onto the field. Using advanced performance technology — similar to what is used in collegiate and professional programs — we monitor readiness and individualize training to support each athlete’s needs.
PERFORMANCE TECH SPOTLIGHT
Our staff uses data-informed reporting tools to better understand how athletes are adapting to training.

Comparison reports track changes in performance over time, allowing us to compare individual athletes, position groups, or entire teams.

Trend reports support day-to-day readiness monitoring and long-term performance tracking, helping guide training decisions throughout a season.
Performance Nutrition
Fueling performance in athletics, academics, and daily life
Performance nutrition at Loomis Chaffee supports the whole student, not just the athlete. Led by a full-time registered dietitian, our program provides evidence-based guidance that helps students fuel performance, recovery, focus, and overall health.
Nutrition support includes:
- Individualized nutrition and hydration consultations
- Team-based education on fueling for performance and recovery
- Collaboration with strength & conditioning, athletic training, counseling, and the Health Center
- Oversight of the athletics fueling station with intentionally curated snack options
Beyond athletics, our approach builds nutrition literacy — helping students develop informed, healthy relationships with food that support lifelong well-being.
Athletic Training
Comprehensive, student-first medical care for safe participation and recovery
Loomis Chaffee’s licensed athletic trainers provide expert care focused on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Working closely with coaches, families, physicians, and campus health professionals, they ensure students receive timely, coordinated, and individualized support.
Key services include:
- Injury prevention screenings, taping, bracing, and equipment checks
- On-field emergency care during practices and competitions
- Orthopedic injury evaluation and treatment planning
- Customized rehabilitation and safe return-to-play protocols
- Concussion management with coordinated return-to-learn and return-to-play support
Did you know?
Loomis Chaffee uses an innovative concussion management program to support student safety.
The program is called Sway Medical and involves a mobile baseline assessment that all students take every two years — often described as a preseason check-in for brain health.
Once the baseline assessment has been completed, individual data is stored and then used for comparison when a possible concussion has occurred, and a follow up assessment is administered. This allows our athletic trainers to make informed, evidence-based decisions and guide a safe, thoughtful return to learning and play.
Physical Therapy
On-campus expertise for movement quality and long-term recovery
Our full-time licensed physical therapist works alongside athletic trainers to support injury rehabilitation, post-operative care, and movement assessment. This collaborative approach ensures seamless care from initial injury through confident return to activity — while addressing underlying movement patterns that help prevent future injuries.
Mental Health
Confidence, focus, and resilience are essential to performance
Mental well-being is a core part of Loomis Chaffee’s sports performance philosophy. Student-athletes are supported through a network of campus resources that promote emotional wellness, stress management, and balance.
By integrating mental well-being into our overall approach, we help students develop the confidence and resilience needed to perform, learn, and grow — both in competition and in life.
