With close to 35 athletes and four coaches, the Loomis Chaffee boys cross country program welcomes veteran runners and rookies alike.
Practices find us in three pace groups, all ultimately doing the same workout, though executed at different rates and to a differing number of repetitions. The boys team thrives on well-placed hard, medium, and easy workouts and even full recovery days between races. When not on the trails or track, the team engages in resistance work in the pool to ensure that we maintain our level of fitness without the constant pounding on our legs.
There is a fun, yet focused culture to the program. Events like our annual mini-golf tournament or rock-paper-scissors contests keep it light, while outside speakers address the team in order to allow the athletes to learn as much as possible about the sport and the competitive spirit.
All our races are on the weekend, allowing the team to properly train during the week. While we compete in some tri-meets against other prep schools, our program also opts for a number of large invitationals in order to provide our athletes with a full cross country experience. Loomis now competes in the Wilton (CT) Invitational, the Manchester (NH) Invitational, and the Manhattan College (NY) Invitational, which sets our athletes up for the success to vie for the Founders League and Division 1 NEPSTA (New England Prep School) titles at the end of the season.
Many in our ranks have gone onto successful collegiate careers, while all remain loyal to Loomis Chaffee cross country.
