Boys Varsity & JV Track & Field
Boys track and field at Loomis Chaffee has enjoyed a long history of success, with many Founders League titles throughout the years. We ask our athletes, "What are you going to do today to make yourself a better athlete tomorrow?" The coaches attempt to support the entire student athlete on the track and off.
Loomis is particularly proud of guys who began their track careers at Loomis and find success here and in college. Our alumni go on to compete at some of the very best Division I and Division III colleges and universities in the country, including schools like Princeton University, Dartmouth College, Williams College, Wesleyan University, and many more.
Our coaches regularly attend track conferences to adjust the way we coach. Loomis boasts an eight-lane track with two jumping pits.

Doug MacLeodHead Coach
Doug MacLeod joins Loomis after working at Pomfret School for 9 years. Pomfret did not have a track and field program from 1975 until 2016, when Doug and a colleague created a co-ed team that instantly attracted athletes at all levels. In the 8 years of track and field at Pomfret, the teams had multiple winning seasons, while sending runners to compete at the college level. Before Pomfret, Doug was the head coach for track and field at Flint Hill School (VA) and Tampa Preparatory School (FL). He has also coached varsity basketball as an assistant coach for both boys and girls at multiple schools. He brings over 18 years of coaching experience to Loomis Chaffee. Doug was a tri-varsity athlete at Deerfield Academy, captaining the track and field team in his senior year.
Doug’s coaching philosophy focuses on team culture, which allows all athletes to find success according to their own definition – which can range from trying to compete at the college level to training for another sport to just getting to become a better athlete. He emphasizes team culture, knowing that competing is easier and more enjoyable when you have teammates that support you and cheer for you. Additionally, communication between athletes and coaches is of utmost importance, particularly on a multi-dimensional team like track and field. The goal for the track and field season is for student-athletes to peak at the NEPSTA Championship meet and individual success will lead to overall team success.
