Boys Varsity & JV Track & Field
Boys track and field at Loomis Chaffee has enjoyed a long history of success, with many Founders League titles throughout the years. We ask our athletes, "What are you going to do today to make yourself a better athlete tomorrow?" The coaches attempt to support the entire student athlete on the track and off.
Loomis is particularly proud of guys who began their track careers at Loomis and find success here and in college. Our alumni go on to compete at some of the very best Division I and Division III colleges and universities in the country, including schools like Princeton University, Dartmouth College, Williams College, Wesleyan University, and many more.
Our coaches regularly attend track conferences to adjust the way we coach. Loomis boasts an eight-lane track with two jumping pits.

Scott PurdyHead Coach - Hurdles
Head coach Scott Purdy came to Loomis Chaffee in 1998 and took over the boys track and field program in 2000. Under his leadership, the team has won more than 15 Founders League titles, earned a plaque for finishing in the top three at the Division I New England Championships more than 10 times, and grown the program from about 40 boys a year on the team to an annual roster of about 60. Scott’s teams have perpetuated a most impressive streak: The Loomis Chaffee boys track and field team has not suffered a losing record since 1968.
Scott’s athletes have also gone on to have tremendous success at the collegiate level. Alumni of his team have competed for Williams College, Washington University, Princeton University, Cornell University, Wesleyan University, and many other schools. Several of his athletes have been named collegiate All-Americans as well.
Scott regularly attends coaching clinics and works with six assistants at Loomis Chaffee who all provide leadership and expertise in their own ways.
Scott, who teaches English, graduated from Williams College, where he lettered for four years in indoor and outdoor track and field, captaining the teams his senior year and earning Division III All-New England and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference recognition in the hurdles. He earned a master's degree from Middlebury College.
Scott is married to Becky Purdy, who is the head girls cross country coach, and they have two daughters, Erika ’15 and Cameron ’18. Scott lives on campus, is an affiliate in Warham Hall, and also assistant coaches boys cross country.
