Girls Varsity & JV Track & Field
The Loomis girls track and field team has built an impressive record over the years as one of the most competitive programs in both the Founders League and New England Prep School Track Association Division I. One of the most impressive components of our program lies in our “no cuts” policy, which allows every athlete to participate and hone their talent.
The team is fortunate to have many qualified event-specific coaches who work with small groups of athletes. The goal of our coaching staff is to help each athlete develop their individual skills to help the team perform as a competitive unit. Our athletes often set Founders League and school records, and many of our student athletes go on to compete at the Division I and Division III level in college.

Lilian Castillo de HutchinsonHead Coach
Lilian Castillo de Hutchinson joined the Loomis Chaffee community in 2003 as a language faculty, dorm affiliate, and soccer and track and field coach. In 2005 she was named head coach of the girls track and field program. During her time at the helm, her teams have won numerous Founders League championships and have earned several plaques for finishing among the top three teams at the Division I New England Track and Field Championships. She has produced numerous All-League and All-New England athletes, including multiple individual New England champions. Beyond the “island” Hutch, as she is known on the island, has coached numerous Penn Relay qualifiers, 6 of which have earned the coveted “wheel” in the 400 and the 1600 meters relays.
Hutch approaches coaching as an extension of family, one in which all can push their limits in a safe environment while encouraging each other along the way. This has proven an effective model that has allowed the athletes to develop their individual skills in order to help the team perform as a highly competitive unit. Through her leadership and with the help of her highly qualified event-specific coaches, who work daily with their event groups develop the “whole athlete” have seen the LC Tracksters succeed on and beyond the island. With over 50 girls on her squad each year, her training programs invite all levels of athletes willing to challenge themselves with the hopes of achieving individual growth.
Growing up in Jamaica, Latin America, and the United States, Hutch competed in indoor and outdoor track and field while growing up and has coached the sport since 1997. Aside from track and field, Hutch, is a Spanish teacher and a Social Justice educator and serves the school as a member of our Modern and Classical Language Department and as Associate Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Director of Student Programing for the Center for DEI. Hutch lives on campus with her husband, Pearse Hub for Innovation, PHI, affiliate and soccer coach Andrew Hutchinson and their two sons, Porter ’26 and Gabriel-Emilio, and is an affiliate of Cutler Hall.
