Monday Musings

from The Kravis Center

Monday, March 25, 2019

Dear all,

I hope that everyone had a great first week of spring term! While it doesn't necessarily feel like spring outside quite yet, at least it's staying lighter later and not snowing. Here's to hoping it stays that way and that the temperature gradually starts to rise…

As you all know, we have an exciting week with Grant Lichtman joining us on campus all day on Thursday, March 28. I know that all three of us are really looking forward to his visit, in particular the design challenge workshop down in the PHI in the afternoon. I included two pieces from Grant that Sara shared last week, in addition to two other resources to help give a little more background on his work.

Have a great start to the week, and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

Innovation

I am resharing two pieces from last week by Grant Lichtman: When Trajectories of Change Cross and a TEDx talk: What sixty schools can tell us about teaching 21st century skills

I highly recommend browsing the introduction to Grant's book, Moving the Rock: Seven Levers WE Can Press to Transform Education along with a short 3-minute video that he made that highlights the book's key lesson.

Pedagogical Practice of the Week: Interleaving

The Effects of Interleaved Practice – a research article out of the University of South Florida.

A helpful explanation of interleaving with graphs.
