Monday Musings from The Kravis Center January 27, 2020
Dear Colleagues, Last week, I sent an email to 34 faculty with 20 or more years of experience, asking them not only to take part in the next Open Classroom Week from Feb 11-14, but to be highlighted. I am so grateful for their willingness to share their expertise. For me personally, with 28 years of teaching under my belt, this opportunity is a bit bittersweet. As we learn more and more about the human brain and take a deeper dive into the fundamentals of Mind, Brain, Education (MBE) Science in order to gain a clearer understanding of neuroplasticity, strategies for long-term memory encoding and retrieval, metacognition, cognitive load, and the link between cognition and emotion, I, for one, wish that I were starting all over again, that I were 22, fresh out of college, walking into the classroom for the first time, surrounded by those whose expertise I could observe and from whom I could learn and grow. (Rose-colored glasses, I know - that first year of teaching was not one I would proudly repeat). We all know that teachers need other teachers to succeed, and OCW allows us all to engage in conversation, to learn and to grow from the resources to be found on the other side of our classroom walls.

Get a team of colleagues together to spend some time at St. Andrew's at the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (The CTTL). Sara Deveaux, Lena Sadowitz, and Rachel Nisselson have all attended over the past two years. Read their comments in the external PD opportunities document (linked below).
Reminder! The link to the external PD opportunities is always available. Once in the document, click on the bookmark to find conferences that may interest you. Let Sara know if you would like to add a omment or provide feedback next to a conference that you attended. Please excuse the "expired" dates. Most conferences do not update dates until January. ________________________________________________________ Resources to bookmark
