Dear Loomis Chaffee Parents and Students,
Given the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus, the school has decided to delay the opening of campus to students until Sunday, April 5, and to implement a remote learning plan for the first two weeks of the spring term. Please read this email carefully for important details regarding this change to the start of the spring term. We are sending this information now so that you have time to adjust your travel arrangements and schedules and our faculty have time to complete their preparations for remote classes.
Revised Spring Term Calendar
With the delay in opening campus, a very small number of students may not have family or guardians to stay with between March 23 and April 5. If this is the case for your child, please contact Jaci Cardwell at jaci_cardwell@loomis.org by Monday, March 16.
The school is seeking families willing to open their homes to students during the first few weeks of the spring term. If your family would like to host a student, please contact Jaci Cardwell at jaci_cardwell@loomis.org. All students seeking a homestay will be required to meet return-to-campus protocols to qualify for placement.
Remote Learning Plans As noted above, the exact nature of remote learning may vary depending on the teacher and the course. More details about remote learning plans and expectations will be sent to students and parents in the coming days. Students are expected to check their Loomis email accounts daily for important messages from the school and their teachers. In the meantime, please note the following:
In times like these, misinformation may spread quickly. I ask that you rely on messages that are sent directly from the school as your official source of information about Loomis Chaffee's response and plans moving forward. If you have not done so already, please whitelist emails from lc_communications@loomis.org so messages from the school do not get caught in your spam filters. Past communications from the school are posted on student and parent portals. By Friday, the school will publish a webpage that you can bookmark and refer to for information about the school's plans for the spring term.
We thank you in advance for your support and patience during this disruption to normal school operations. The Loomis faculty, staff, and administration are committed to ensuring the best possible education within these new constraints. You can expect additional updates with details regarding remote learning plans in the coming days.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at sheila_culbert@loomis.org. Thank you for all your good wishes and the care that you have already demonstrated. I look forward to welcoming our students back to classes on campus in April.
Sincerely, Sheila Culbert Head of School
