NEW Retrieving Belongings on Campus Schedule Canceled The schedule for students to return to campus to retrieve their belongings has been canceled. The campus is closed until further notice. DEADLINE APPROACHING Prefect/RA Applications - Due Monday, April 6 Are you interested in becoming a student leader in a dorm? Do you have what it takes to make our campus a welcoming and accepting place for all? If you answered "yes," you should consider applying to become a Prefect or RA for the 2020-2021 academic year. Access the applications below:
All applications are due by April 6. You must also provide one faculty recommendation that will be due on April 10. Please click here for that form.

Poetry from Quarantine - Tuesday, April 7 Help kick off poetry month by joining Writing Initiatives and The Loom for an evening of verse on Tuesday, April 7 at 8:15 p.m. (EDT). Students may choose to share original work, or they may bring poems by their favorite poets to read aloud. Any pieces that bring us joy, solace, perspective, or inspiration during these unusual times are especially welcome. We will also hear the voices of past Pelicans by dipping into some poems from archived editions of The Loom! Zoom Meetings - Important Changes You may have heard of a recent phenomenon called Zoom bombings. That is when a complete stranger can enter a Zoom meeting or chat and share inappropriate images or use inappropriate language. To help prevent this, the school has changed some default settings for our Zoom accounts.
From now on when students click on a Zoom meeting link, they will be placed in a waiting room until the host of the meeting lets them in. It is critical under this new setting that students all have registered Zoom accounts (they are free). It is also important that students use their real names on their account so teachers know who they are. It is also good practice not to forward (share) a link to a Zoom meeting you have been invited to; the hosts (your teachers) will do that. Pelican Community Info Next time you are on your portal page check out your Groups Dashboard and click on Pelican Community Info. You will find lots of great information and resources posted there from Athletics, Counseling, Health, Learning Support, Community Service, DEI, the Norton Center, and the Deans. In the Athletics Folder you will find all of Coach Mai's workouts as well as links for meditations, nutrition, yoga and basic workouts. We will continue to post to these folders so make it a place you check out frequently! LCAA Wants Your Highlights! We might not have the ability to enjoy our practices in the nice spring weather side by side with our coaches and teammates, but this should not stop Loomis athletes from sharing our success. Please send your highlights or favorite moments to John_Cunningham@loomis.org. These could be a compilation of your jaw-dropping plays or short videos of your most impressive moves. They will be posted on the Loomis Chaffee athletics Instagram page. Let's celebrate our great athletes and all our sports! Katharine Brush Library News At this time, the Katharine Brush Library will be extending due dates on all books currently checked out to early September. We will also be going fine-free. Please contact the librarians at eric_styles@loomis.org, katherine_popadin@loomis.org, or emily_ziemba@loomis.org with any research, inter-library loan (articles only, no books), or book recommendation questions. We're (virtually) here to help! We are also assembling a growing list of free educational and recreational resources at http://loomis.libguides.com/Library-Resources-COVID19. Ideas for Maintaining and Building Community All students are invited to submit ideas for maintaining and building community using this form.
We welcome suggestions for fun, light-hearted events and programs as well as more substantial ones. We are looking to make connections both within our LC community and beyond in other communities. We have already received some great proposals, and your use of this form will help us to track suggestions and respond accordingly.
If you have questions, reach out to Ms. Parada (Elizabeth_Parada@loomis.org), Mrs. Caligiuri (Lori_Caligiuri@loomis.org), Mr. LaForest (Eric_LaForest@loomis.org), Mrs. Pond (molly_pond@loomis.org), Mr. Helfrich (Tim_Helfrich@loomis.org), or Mrs. Henderson (Heather_Henderson@loomis.org). Norton Fellows Application Deadline is Wednesday, April 15 Attention Class of 2021 and Class of 2022! Given the circumstances we are extending the application deadline for the Norton Fellows program out to Wednesday, April 15. At this time, we plan to run the program this summer, though we will make a final determination in May. Information about the program is available here.
The Daily Bulletin is published via email every evening, except Saturdays, while school is in session. Check out the Bulletin for the latest announcements and information about upcoming events. Please use the News and Information Submission Form to submit announcements. The deadline is 2 p.m. the day of publication; submissions for Sunday's bulletin must be submitted by 2 p.m. on Friday.
