COVID-19 Protocols

Loomis Chaffee School

Outlined below are protocols Loomis Chaffee has put in place for the  2021–22 school year to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections in our community. These protocols apply to all students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors to Loomis unless otherwise noted. While we hope to provide students with a living and learning experience more reflective of a pre-pandemic year, we are monitoring the continued spread of COVID-19 and the related recommendations from federal and state agencies.

Thank you for your attention to and compliance with these protocols. We hope we will be able to ease some of these restrictions as the pandemic wanes.

Athletics COVID-19 Protocols

For the foreseeable future, we will be testing the entire community weekly through Mirimus saliva pooled testing. Those tests will be collected on Thursdays. (Students who are not fully vaccinated will be tested twice a week.)

For those of you who were not here last year, this process involves obtaining your labeled testing supplies, including a collection tube, and spitting into that tube until it is nearly full, sealing it, and submitting it so that the samples can be returned to the lab for analysis.

Watch this video for important instructions including restrictions on eating, brushing teeth, and other activities before providing a sample:

Exposure Guidelines

The Health Center has developed a set of COVID exposure guidelines for community members. Exposure is defined as contact with a COVID-19-infected person within six feet for 15 minutes or more, accrued over 24 hours (1 day), regardless of facial coverings, except when masked in the classroom, where the distance is three feet according to the Connecticut Department of Education.

Please inform the Health Center (students) or Human Resources (employees) if you have been exposed to COVID-19. Fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff who have been exposed to COVID-19 but are not experiencing any symptoms do not need to quarantine but will need to take a PCR test and follow specific masking guidelines. The requirements for unvaccinated individuals exposed to COVID-19 and for vaccinated individuals exposed and experiencing symptoms do include quarantine. Please familiarize yourself with the COVID exposure guidelines linked here.
