The Loomis Chaffee School is a renowned New England boarding school located on a 300-acre campus in Windsor, Connecticut. Chartered in 1874 by five siblings whose children all died tragically and who then selflessly determined to found a school as a gift to the children of others, Loomis provides our students with the best education — an education in which excellence in teaching and learning is shaped by the why, as much as the what, and every member of the community shares a commitment to the best self and the common good.

Centers for Excellence
The Norton Family Center for the Common Good nurtures an active approach to citizenship in our global society. Under the guidance of the center, all freshmen share a common first-year experience that engages them in important conversations about citizenship and democratic values. The Henry R. Kravis '63 Center for Excellence in Teaching serves Loomis teachers in their pursuit of teaching and coaching excellence. Faculty use the center and its staff as a proactive source for both ongoing professional development as well as pedagogical research based at Loomis and applied to our classrooms directly. The Pearse Hub for Innovation (PHI) provides the inspiration, space, training, and support for curricular and extra-curricular innovation, idea incubation, and entrepreneurship. The PHI's classrooms, makers' space, and adaptable space for collaboration and creativity are designed to facilitate project-based learning across disciplines as well as special programs such as include robotics, design thinking, and computer science. Arts
Visual Arts
The Richmond Art Center, the Sue and Eugene Mercy Jr. Gallery, and the Visiting Artist Program make the visual arts a school specialty. We teach the fundamentals of technique and design in a wide variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture, glass, digital photography, film and video production, digital animation and special effects in video, graphic design and digital art, and 3D fabrication and craft.
Music
The Hubbard Music Center is home to music programs that more than a third of Loomis students take part in. The music program offers classes in music theory, technology, and history as well as performance ensemble experience, including orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, jazz improv, guitar ensemble, chamber music ensemble, concert choir, and chamber singers. Students may also enroll in private music lessons taught at the school.
Theater and Dance
Training in all aspects of theater is supported by curricular offerings in acting, directing, technical theater, and playwriting as well as an active yearly production schedule of full-length plays, musicals, and a festival of original plays written, directed, performed, and produced entirely by students. Additionally, both daytime and after-school dance programs offer training and performance opportunities in modern/contemporary, jazz, tap, ballet, and hip hop.
