Mercy Gallery

The Sue and Eugene Mercy Jr. Gallery, dedicated in honor of former Loomis Chaffee Trustee Eugene Mercy Jr. ’55 and his wife, Sue, is located in the Richmond Art Center — the campus hub for the visual arts program. Throughout the year, the Mercy Gallery invites artists who work in a wide variety of media and represent diverse artistic endeavors and cultural and geographic perspectives to exhibit and share their art with our community. Often these artists also participate in our Visiting Artists program — creating their art alongside our students.

Traci Talasco: Tipping Point
April 4—May 7, 2024

In conjunction with the CL Studio Art capstone show, Slavery at Loomis project exhibit, and artwork from all disciplines.

Traci Talasco’s solo exhibition, Tipping Point, uses the construct of home along with site-specific elements from the Loomis Chaffee campus to investigate social / political ideas and power imbalances. Everyday materials have a sense of familiarity, yet they are re-configured in absurd or poetic ways making the work emotionally charged.

Artist Bio

Talasco’s work has been included in exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her most notable solo installations are “Revised Histories” at the Morris-Jumel Mansion; “Turning a Blind Eye” at the Hall of Fame Gallery; “Rub Me the Wrong Way” at the Brooklyn Arts Council Gallery + DUMBO Arts Festival, “How You Seduce Me (Brought to you by Glidden)” at Art Space, New Haven, CT, and “.0000918 Acres” at McGrath Galleries, NYC. Select group exhibitions include the Edward Hopper House Museum, Nyack, NY, Masquelibros at the Architecture Institute of Madrid, Madrid Spain, Espora Project at the International Center for Photography Library, NYC, BRIC Media Arts Center, Rotunda Gallery, NYC, Art in Odd Places, NYC, Governor’s Island , NYC, Locust Projects, FL, Harvestworks, NYC, and Tilt Gallery + Project Space, Portland, OR. She has participated in artist residencies at the Bronx Museum of the Arts (AIM program), and CUE Art Foundation, NYC. Traci received a 2022 NYFA Individual Artist Grant, and a 2016 NYFA Fellowship in the category of Architecture / Environmental Structures. Traci’s work has been reviewed in the Time Out New York Blog, New York Times, Flash Art International, the Village Voice, and is included in several exhibition catalogs. She has an MA in Visual Arts Education from Hunter College (2022), and received a BFA from Tyler School of Art / Temple University, in Philadelphia, PA (1996).
